PacSet Official Statement on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games
As the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo draw closer, we have been getting more and more inquiries into whether we can assist with hotels and tickets for the Olympics. In order to arrange things, we met with a number of hotels and suppliers to see what we could arrange. Unfortunately, the news we got was less than fabulous, which is why we have decided to release the following statement to clarify our position.
The good news: Here is what we ARE planning for the 2020 Olympics Season.
We can help provide travel tips and suggestions for how to spend your time in Tokyo via our Boost service.
We are planning a post-Olympic trip called "Japan Beyond" that will take place after the games. Details for the journey will be announced this summer on pacsettravel.com and the usual bunch of social media channels that you know and love. <3
Beyond the two things listed above, we will not be able to organize any full itineraries or private trip arrangements during the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
This is due to the following reasons:
1) The Olympic Organizing Committee in Tokyo has seen fit to arrange all their tickets through select resellers in other nations. The only way you can get tickets is through these services, and even then, tickets are not guaranteed. Should you wish to purchase tickets in the United States, the only option at this time is via https://www.cosport.com and their packages.
2) According to our suppliers, one company (that we will not mention in this post) has reserved close to 90% of the rooms in most hotels in Tokyo. While we do not agree with these kinds of business practices, we do not have the power to change them.
We are well aware that this is less-than-fabulous news. However, as a travel agency, we don't want to promise things to our customers that we cannot deliver.
We are very thrilled about our post-Olympic trip, and we hope you’ll give it a look when it goes live. Likewise, if you do make it to the games, have a good time! A lot of our friends in the city are working hard to make them the best Olympics ever, and we have no doubt that they’ll knock this one out of the park!
